Athlete of the Month

The December recipient of our Athlete of the Month Award is Justis Glassford from Westbrook Christian High School
"In addition to his ability in the classroom, he also shows an enthusiasm to learn about things outside of the classroom, as evidenced in his questions about current events and his willingness to participate in non-school related discussions"
-Joel Hawbaker
Teacher, Westbrook Christian High School
Not many kids under the age of 18 have been beyond the city limits of their hometown; however, this young man has graced several countries in his short lifespan. Justis Glassford is an all-around utility player for the Westbrook Christian High School football team and has quickly made a great impression as a selfless leader.  Teacher Joel Hawbaker says "Justis shows high respect for his teachers, coaches, and fellow students through his tone and posture in the classroom.  He does small things such as holding the door open for others before entering the room."  Though Justis is new to Westbrook Christian, the junior quarterback is not new to leadership. He was the Most Valuable Player of his football team in Okinawa, Japan.  He also earned 3 gold medals and 1 silver medal as a track star at Zion Christian Academy.  He was most recently honored as one the fastest kids at Tennessee Titans’ Colin McCarthy Combine this summer.
Even while holding strong at a 3.8 GPA and barking out signals under the Friday night lights, Justis still finds time to explore his love for animals.  If you are ever looking for him without his helmet, you may find him volunteering at the Etowah County Animal Shelter.  With several years of experience with reptiles, amphibian care, and fresh water fish, he hopes to hone in on his passion by earning a college degree in Biology.  Although Friday nights are his time to shine, Justis further enjoys this time he is able to give back to the Rainbow City, Alabama community.  Justis sees athletics through a much bigger scope than scoring touchdowns.  He says, "athletics teaches you the value of what it truly means to work hard, it helps to develop your personal work ethic and teaches you the importance of team work."
