Athlete of the Month
The July 2018 recipient of our Athlete of the Month Award is Ronni Williams from Raleigh Egypt High School
“On the court, track, and in the classroom her actions make her classmates and teammates better.”
Despite being a four-sport athlete, Ronni Williams never neglected her commitment to academics. This graduate from Raleigh Egypt High School earned a 4.07 GPA and was the Valedictorian of her senior class. Ronni juggled Volleyball, Cross Country, Track & Field, and Basketball. More importantly, she used her platform as a successful athlete to build other leaders. Coach Demetrius Leach says, “on the court, track, and in the classroom her actions make her classmates and teammates better.”
Ronni will attend college at Mississippi Valley State University where she plans to graduate at the top of her class. Her high school teachers seem to believe she can do just that. “She has the skills and determination necessary to allow her to reach her full potential at any college or university that she would have chose to attend,” said Honors English teacher, Candous Brown. Ronni’s success is a direct reflection of her mindset. The Valedictorian scholar-athlete says, “Being a positive role model for my peers and others allows me to relay a message that I hope will help change their mindset from thinking negative and expecting nothing, to thinking positive and having limitless possibilities."
Ronni will be a member of the Women's Basketball team at Mississippi Valley State University, where she earned a full academic scholarship because of her outstanding academic performance in high school. Ronni is also the first female recipient of the Trey Rich Memorial Scholarship. This prestigious scholarship is awarded to exceptional student-athletes each year by Athletes Can, with a mission to uphold the legacy of Elbert Trey Rich, who was killed by a drunk driver in 2014. This scholarship is awarded to student-athletes who defy the odds, challenge the status quo, and embrace leadership. Ronni Williams has done just that. Ronni has been a trailblazer for young women and we look forward to seeing her carry this torch to even greater heights in the near future!
